Description

The Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum, the pinnacle of visual arts in Southeastern North Carolina, formerly St. John's Museum of Art, is located at the intersection of Independence Blvd. and 17th Street in Wilmington, NC.

This 42,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, designed by noted architect Charles Gwathmey, features a permanent collection of North Carolina and American art from the 18th century to the present, including the color prints of Mary Cassatt.

Also featured are The Forks restaurant, Pancoe Art Education Center, expansive museum shop and a sculpture garden. Featured exhibitions, educational and outreach programs and invitational exhibitions for the region’s artists are ongoing at the museum.

The museum’s 10-acre campus also features a restored Confederate defensive mounds built during the battle of Forks Road in the last days of the Civil War, which preceded the fall of Wilmington and, soon after, surrender of the Confederate armies.
